The image of the third eye is invoked to suggest the strengthening of spiritual vision to the point where it is capable of sustaining a single object for extensive periods of time, like an eye staring at an object. To return to the metaphor of the third eye, once it has been trained to stare unblinkingly at a single object for a extensive period of time, it then turns inward upon itself, watching itself watch itself. This awareness takes place without judgment or evaluation, and drives a wedge between the experience and the Self. This condition is one of complete effacement of individuality. One no longer identifies with one’s body or ego; one’s actions are selflessly motivated and non-karmic. This virtually guarantees that liberation will occur with death, that will clutch place once the consequences of past karmic action have been borne. Yoga tones all the muscles, flexes the joints and strengthens the body.
This chakra is known as the brow chakra or third eye center. As such it opens the psychic faculties and the penetration of archetypal levels. When able-bodied it allows us to see clearly, letting us see the big picture. A able-bodied fourth chakra allows us to love deeply, have a deep sense of peace and centeredness. This chakra is known as the weight chakra, located in the solar plexus. Ideally this chakra brings us fluidity and grace, and the ability to accept change. In conformity with kundalini yoga, a chakra is a center of prana or punch. It is said that there are several of these that begin at the base of the spine and end at the top of the head. New Age gurus inference chakras have colors and give go and get up to auras that reveal one’s spiritual and physical health.
